I was just watching the television and apparently officials are going too met to discuss an alterative for Kyoto as so many countries that ratified are having difficulties meeting their goals. I have news for them, there was nothing wrong with the goals; it was the will-power that was at fault.
The inaction brought about by fear. Fear of change, fear of uncertainty; fear that the other guy in the economic market would not follow suit, fear of cost to the bottom-line, fear of etc.
The truth is that we need to start thinking what we need to do now, not what we should have begun 20-30 years ago and trying to implement it now. Our governments need to start making things to be mandatory.
Mandatory power saving appliances for those being sold/made. Mandatory garbage reduction programs for households and business (i.e., x-amount of garbage per person/whatever). Mandatory composting (vegetable, meat, grain, fruit) and recycling as well as mandatory reusing products to make new products by businesses or at the least the creation of an industry to do this by government sponsorship.
Fines and rewards programs for those that disobey and obey, respectively. Rewards could be created from the money saved by being environmental friendly, healthcare costs reductions, local government savings, etc.
